Song Of The Power Line

The song of the power line
Sighs through the land
Affirming its new-taken rule
Up near cold clouds, pulsing with life
Cause of Man's rise and his fall

The song of the power line
Heads for the sky
With its pylons so strong and so tall
Its love is straight lines and danger signs
Blind science and a dead bird's last call

The song of the power line
Tugs at my heart
For I know I depend on it too
All these earthly things that I hold far too dear
Are brought into life by you

Written while sitting at Cressing station waiting for the train, on a misty morning where the hum and crackle of the power lines that pass above the station (pylons in nearby fields) was very audible.
