Placeholder Attackers Report:

Summary Report of Warrior Unit 007, Central Consolidation:

Attempted to secure the Florentina area. Very large Flembic patrol from Asilio Bussola; at least four hundred. Attempted to draw out patrol away from main force, but unsuccessful. Chased from area; patrol section led by Lady Julia Apuleius and Jenet Elldene particularly focussed on defeating Earthquake Beetle, presumably due to perceived threat to Asilio walls.

Sixty-five casualties, including the earthquake beetle. Flembic losses totalled not more than fifty.

[OOC: This is a placeholder battle report. There will hopefully be a real battle report later.]

Placeholder Defenders Report:

A large, but rather directionless swarm of Azarch make another bid for Florentina.

Your large patrol marches out and disperses them, although about half of the hundred-strong force successfully flee the area. The slaughter birds are out in force, and there are a few of the insidious camouflaged stinger snakes also; you lose forty-eight good men and women in the process of chasing the natives off.

However, Lady Julia Apuleius - at Jenet Elldene's suggestion - takes a section of the army and ensures that the gigantic beetle, with a face like a battering ram, which the natives have brought with them does not survive the encounter. Which would have been a considerably easier task if Aneres Rufen had been any good with the pergeas he proudly attempted to plunge through its carapace...

Local Report:

A large, but rather directionless swarm of Azarch make another bid for Florentina.

The large patrol based in the Asilio marches out and disperses them, although about half of the hundred-strong force successfully flee the area. They do lose their gigantic siege-beetle, however: rather decreasing the likelihood of a successful attack on the Asilio later.

The slaughter birds are out in force, and there are a few of the insidious camouflaged stinger snakes also; the Flembics lose forty-eight good men and women in the process of chasing the natives off.

Colony Report:

The slaughter birds are out in force, and there are a few of the insidious camouflaged stinger snakes also; the Flembics lose fifty good men and women to razor-sharp claws and deadly poison.

Attackers Report:

Report of Warrior Unit 007, Central Consolidation, re: Loss of Earthquake Beetle at Florentina

Attempted to secure the Florentina area. Very large Flembic patrol from Asilio Bussola; over two hundred. Noticed force in time to retreat, but did not retreat fast enough to protect Earthquake Beetle section, standing off some way from main aggressors.

Had believed that standing off would keep Earthquake Beetle safer in case of Flembic interference, but patrol section led by Lady Julia Apuleius, Anares Rufen and Jenet Elldene particularly focussed on defeating Earthquake Beetle, presumably due to perceived threat to Asilio walls.

Defenders Report:

Havelock Fredrickson is in the watchtower and gives the warning as the Azarch make another bid for Florentina.

The Flembic army marches forth once more. At first, you are wary of splitting the forces after what happened to Cyril Grey at Serpentera - he is still clinging to life, but too incapacitated by the hideous internal decay from the stinger snakes' poison to move - but Lady Julia Apelius points out that by all reports, the Flembic outnumber this group of the enemy by at least two to one, and it would be a shame not to press the advantage.

Taking Jenet Elldene, Anares Rufen, the eidolons, and the Angels with Dirty Faces and other lower city troops, supplemented by Millington's Free Islanders and Merisusi, they head around the flank of the apparently leaderless force. Slaughter birds circle overhead, and the Azarch are not so short-sighted as to ignore the Flembic advance, but they do not have as much notice as those that have been travelling with Thaddeus Wolfe; they form up, appear to have a discussion, and have only just begun to retreat when the Flembic lines are upon them.

The single flight of slaughter birds attempts to intercept the flanking force, but Lady Julia calmly shoots a couple of the leading birds out of the air, which seems to adequately discourage them.

Then Jenet points out the earthquake beetle in the distance, guarded only by half a dozen distinctly nervous-looking Azarch. Now that looks like a worthy target. The flanking force breaks into double time and heads directly for the small enemy group; the Azarch attempt to get the earthquake beetle moving away from the threat, but the creature is much slower than your swift advance.

The Merisusi and the Free Islanders charge forwards as Julia begins to fire on the Azarch, who are soon cut down or flee the area; the beetle itself is a tougher proposition, and it bites one of the 2nd Freeport Red Coats clean in half as they get too close. Anares runs up behind it and attempts to plunge a pergeas into the hard carapace, but can't get a clean stab at the curved shell, and the weapon harmlessly skitters off.

Keeping well clear of its deadly mandibles, the Merisusi of Smiths Fist hack at the creature's carapace, but nothing seems to be working until Jenet ducks down underneath the beast and calmly plunges her dagger into its soft underbelly, and each of its sturdy but less-armoured legs, rolling out just as the beast collapses.

Alas, a good half of the Azarch from the main force of a hundred or so manage to run off while the flankers are engaged with the earthquake beetle; and the retreating Azarch spread more of the insidious camouflaged stinger snakes behind them.

In all, you lose forty-eight good men and women in the process of chasing the natives off once again - but their earthquake beetle is dead, distinctly reducing their chances of smashing their way into the Asilio any time soon.
